WWW Wednesday is hosted by Taking on a World of Words.

WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING?

The last book I read was an ARC of Sweetheart (Busy Bean, #1) by Sarah Mayberry. It’s part of Sarina Bowen’s World of True North.

WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?

I’m reading one of my most highly anticipated books of 2021:  Nate by Tijan. If you’re familiar with Tijan’s Fallen Crest High series, you know who Nate is and why finally having this book is so exciting.

WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’LL READ NEXT?

I’ll be headed back to the Busy Bean series with book #2, Cowboy by L.B. Dunbar.

  1. Are all these True North world books like fan fiction? That’s how I felt when I read the books set in Penny Reid’s Winston Brothers world but written by other authors.

    1. So I’ve only read a few books set in the Winston Brothers world, but I get what you’re saying. The only ones that I read that worked for me in her world were Karla Sorensen’s. They felt true to Reid’s writing style and setting. As for this True North world, I’m LOVING it. The entire Moo U series was great. I also really liked this first Busy Beans book. It had a lot of Bowen’s characters and still managed to feel like it fit. It didn’t feel like fan fiction at all to me.

  2. I still can’t decide if I really like or dislike the idea of authors writing books in other author’s worlds. I mean, it’s a cool concept and a good way to cross promote. But it also feels a little disingenuous to the original characters? I don’t know.
I’m also really anxious to get your final thoughts on Nate! Once my mood approves, I’ll definitely be asking to borrow it 🙂

    1. I don’t normally love it. Karla Sorensen is the only one who nailed Penny Reid’s world for me. BUT Moo U in this same world did work for me. I think what helped is that the characters are pretty true to Sarina Bowen’s characters and writing style.

    1. I really enjoyed it. Yes, so many! I already read the first 3 Moo U that come out on Feb 15th. Those hockey ones were so good! So was Sweetheart. Bowen started something good here!

    1. This is the Busy Bean series. It takes place in Zara and Audrey’s coffee shop. Audrey is True North book 1 and Zara is True North book 4. Characters from Roommate also tied to it. BUT Sweetheart can be read as a standalone. It won’t ruin those books for you. You also don’t have to read them to understand this one.

    2. Oh wait! Are you asking about the World of True North? There are 3 series that are starting that are related to Bowen’s True North series. She’s invited authors to write in her world, like Penny Reid has. The first is Moo U series and I read those 3 and loved them. Now, I’m reading this second series and enjoying it as well.
