Rating: ★ ★ ★ ★ ¼

Synopsis:

“She went home with someone else that night?”

Hearing the disbelief from my best friend’s mouth makes the events of my failed date sting that much more.

I would like to make it known, I have a lot more swagger than what it seems. I don’t normally ask a girl out, have her fail to recognize it’s a date, and then give me a high five–as if I’m her wingman–and take off with someone else.

No. Normally I’m the one taking the girl home but with Stella, it’s been one failed attempt after another and frankly, I’m done trying.

But thanks to my best friend getting married in Hawaii right before the school year starts, I’m stuck on a tropical island, watching Stella parade around in what she claims is a bathing suit.

Unfortunately, that’s not the worst of it, just the tip of the iceberg. Because what I think is going to be a relaxing vacation, avoiding the one girl I can’t seem to make it work with, has turned into a spectacle of being recruited as Stella’s doting fake fiancé so she can save face with an old “friend” from high school.

Now I’m navigating through purgatory while trying not to get turned on by the way she holds my hand or kisses my jaw. It’s all fake, that’s what I keep telling myself, even though it feels entirely too real.

Can I start by saying I’m loving this series of teacher-teacher romances by Meghan Quinn? It’s so refreshing for the relationships set at school to be between the teachers. Plus, Meghan Quinn knows just how to combine humor and heat to make things even more fun.

Stella and Romeo’s romance was one that I had been waiting for. I couldn’t wait for these best friends/co-workers to fall for each other. Things didn’t start out easily for them, though. Stella was pretty oblivious to Romeo’s feelings and it made for some awkwardness and frustration on a trip to Hawaii to celebrate their friends’ wedding. Things got even weirder between them when Romeo became Stella’s fake fiancé. There was a whole lot of drama. Most of it was hilariously fun. Some was super hot. A tiny bit was a little cringeworthy. Overall, it made for a great love story since these two were perfect for each other.

I only had one little complaint when it came to Earn Your Extra Credit. Stella drove me absolutely batty. I understood her completely, but it didn’t make it any easier. I just wanted her to get a clue at times. Luckily, all the sweet and steamy moments between Stella and Romeo made up for it.

Overall, this was a great read that had me laughing out loud and swooning. I loved the friendships, the family moments, and the romance. It’s another win from Quinn in my book.

  1. Another great review Deanna, I will read or listen to this series eventually. I think I would really enjoy it. I did have some romances on my staffs over my teaching career.

    1. Thank you! You probably would enjoy it. Just want to mention it might be on the steamier side for you.

  2. Sounds like a book rec to me! Friends-to-lovers? 4.5 stars? And it’s MQ??? Sign me up!!! I just hope I’m able to get over the heroine’s antics like you were 😀

    1. I think you will enjoy this one if you liked the first. And you’ll get what I mean with Stella. 😉

  3. This sounds really sweet! And much better than one between a teacher and a student. Although I did enjoy a fanfic between a Tobias Eaton (from Divergent) in his 20s with a former student of a similar age.

    1. LOL. I didn’t hear about that Divergent one before now. It sounds both interesting and shocking.
